YOU CAN MAKE IT STOP!
Bullying and harassment are the misuse of power to
degrade, intimidate, humiliate, terrorize or coerce
another person. Bullying is about cruelty and control,
and it’s intentional—bullies mean to hurt someone.
Bystanders make bullying worse when they support,
rather than try to stop, the bad behavior.
Remember: everyone has the right to feel safe and be
treated with respect, and everyone has the
responsibility to treat others respectfully.
Bullying can be:
• physical violence or threats of violence
• laughing at someone or taunting them
• starting nasty rumours about a person
• not letting someone hang out with you and your
friends
If you’re being bullied
Avoid being alone with the bully—it’s not being
scared, it’s being smart!
Call for help. Tell an adult what’s going on. Keep
telling until someone helps
Take a stand –tell the bully to stop it, or ignore it, or
make a joke about it.
If you are a bully
Stop the bad behaviour – realize it’s not acceptable,
and it won’t make you popular
Take responsibility, and think about how to make
amends
Open your mind to helping, not hurting- you’ll be
surprised how much better you feel about yourself
Prevent situations that lead you to bully—why do you
do it, anyway?
Bystanders have the most power!
You can refuse to go along with the bully, tell them to
stop, encourage the victim, and tell an adult what you’
ve seen or heard!
